Each year on the 31st October the Whakatane Combined Churches with help from the wider community put on a Light Party for the children of our area. As a growing number of children were out on the streets at Halloween we felt it important to offer a fun, safe and positive alternative. It is a community focused event and children are encouraged to attend with their parents and younger siblings. There are carnival-like activities with games, entertainment, prizes, competitions, amusement rides and more. Each child receives a free sausage, candy floss and loot bag. This year we gave away over 1800 loot bags to the children. Most of the CRE teachers are involved on the night and it is something we encourage everyone to be a part of.

Both Matata and Kawerau districts also arrange activities for their children initiated by our CRE Teachers in those areas with help from their local Blue Light Committees.
