The effect of CRE in Hawkes Bay

Below are stories that Elaine shared with her church on the impact CRE has had on a couple of her students.

Some years ago a 9yr old boy was in a Bible-in-school class of mine and I had been teaching on how there are 2 roads to life the broad one & the narrow one. He used to see me sometimes in the supermarket car park and would call out to me in a loud voice "Mrs Morrison, I'm still on the narrow road!"
His background was difficult and he became involved in drugs as time went on. I kept contact with him over the years and took him to a youth night we were running & unbeknown to me he kept disappearing & smoking dope during the event.
His best friend had a tragic accident and was instantly killed by touching a high voltage transformer while under the influence of drugs. He was desperately upset and tried to contact me. He soon did as he knew I had worked with Camp David, a christian camp in the area, from time to time and so he just turned up on his motorbike when we were in the middle of a Ladies Camp. (I had not been there for several months prior to that day)
A visiting speaker was not interested in talking with this desperate young man so I just took him to one side and prayed with him to receive Jesus. The next day I left the country bound for the Middle East & then the U.K. While in London I received a message saying that Graham had been tragically killed on his motorbike just 2 weeks after I left.
We are called to "rescue the perishing" what a responsibility and an awesome privilege.

We recently farewelled from our church a very special young lady - Lisa Curran who is now working with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory Australia. Lisa is a flying instructor and an occupational therapist who received Jesus into her life when she was 8yrs old in my Bible-in-school class .
I had not seen Lisa for many years and so it was with tears and great joy that we greeted each other and shared the amazing way God had led her through the years. She will be used in flying into disaster areas, delivering food & medicines to the hungry and the sick and providing essential transport in remote areas.
Take a wee look at her website - www.lisacurran.co.nz

So what about you today - Jesus has said - I have given you an open door. Yes an open door into the heart of the community! There are many children waiting to learn of Jesus in our schools today and we need to ARISE and GO with the message of LIFE to these precious ones.

We have 3 team leaders for C.R.E. (Christian Religious Education as it is now called ) in our church at this time - Julie Norris, Hastings, Robin Jones, Taradale and Elaine Morrison Havelock North. We would love to hear from you. There is training available & the material for teaching is provided all you need is a heart of love for Jesus & a willingness to go. There are opportunities to go in as a helper with more experienced teachers or as a reliever.

Regional Conference Poem - Hawkes Bay

Off we set in the dark
To the Team Leader’s Conference- what a lark

The constant buzz of fellowship filled our borrowed van all the way down
To Palmerston Town

To Crossroads Church our host for the day
And we’d have to say
